We worry about the objectivity of other people when they make recommendations...even here on Hotcopper, we become very pre-occupied by the perceived financial interests, hidden or otherwise, that influence a person's opinions and recommnedations.
More significantly the question of motives is also present, with Pu Neng and the ultimate selection of a vanadium source. Obviously there are large incentives on the part of Finlayson, Friedland, and Barker which are not completely in harmony. Barker would like one solution; Friedland another; and Finlayson is in the middle of it. It appears to me that RF has installed Finlayson as CEO of Pu Neng for the specific purpose of making sure the best and surest sources of vanadium are selected for Pu Neng.
In the end, Friedland could impose a solution but I do not believe he will impose an inferior sourcing choice for vanadium with respect to Pu Neng. CLQ does not need Pu Neng vanadium to succeed, they have a lot of other fish to fry.
If the best solution excludes CLQ from the VRB supply chain, I think Finlayson (and Friedland) will support it, even though CLQ's bread is not being buttered by it. From my point of view, I would prefer that CLQ get a big role in the vanadium supplies for Pu Neng, and I think that is the most likely outcome.
But Finlayson and Friedland have not consulted me on the matter (!) and are unlikely to be overly influenced even by their own interests in CLQ with respect to the sourcing for Pu Neng.
I believe they will make the best choice for Pu Neng, all things considered.
The best solution may involve CLQ, and I consider this outcome likely; but it is not a sure thing.
