I dont think this is bad thing. At least we get some money back for a large investment.
There is no way new Australian gas export projects are going to get up, with all of the majors struggling to find enough gas to export to Asia and supply gas to the domestic market. With East Coast gas prices in the $8-$9 range it says it all about the state of the Australian gas market. Why would you spend billions on a LNG export plant to get $8 in Japan when you can sell that gas straight into the domestic market for the same price or even more. The energy majors are losing money on their massive LNG investments but making it all back gouging the domestic market.
Its tragic that we have so much gas in Australia but yet our electricity and gas bills keep going up and up.
I dont think this is bad thing. At least we get some money back...
