    On CGT. Im reading the cryptic clues in these threads and starting to doubt myself. Pretty sure on the following though. If you are holding a loss, then frequent buying and selling can make a lot of sense, or of course you could play the long term and carry the losses forward indefinitely. There are rules on how to carry losses and when and how to off set them to gains. The idea of trader vs investor is valid and dictates strategy if you're a more experienced share holder / trader. The ATO defines you as a trader if you meet certain criteria, some of which might be (guessing) trade sizes, frequency, turn over and gains, if I remember correctly. In that case you need an ABN or PAYG instalments or something right?

    For tax purposes im an 'investor', but really im a hobby 'trader'.
