It has not been established at this stages if the very large gas resource discovered in the non conventional reservoirs in the Canning are commercial .
Even in the USA where the infrastructure and very competitive resources are in place and costs are a fraction of what they are in the Canning , many of the non conventional gas operators have struggled . Some have gone bust .
Huge amounts have been invested by way of equity and company bond issues .
Returns to share holders have been small in comparison .
There is just no way Buru can justify chasing gas at the moment . If they do drill for gas it should only be with other peoples money and on a need to basis .
Buru needs to wait for the infrastructure to be built and for Mitsi or others to prove the profitability of gas in the Canning .
Imho that is years away with or without a fracking moratorium .
Good posts above with respect to need for markets and scale with gas .
Probably the resource will be developed when there is a need for more gas for the NW LNG plants but that is years away and even then depends on the economics at the time .
Oil in conventional reservoirs is the go and Ungani has shown that it is there .
