Should this move not generate a discussion on tariffs in general ?
The idea that all countries are 100% equal and that a homogenized economic society is good is failed logic.
For many years Australia has had this political view of a level playing field and IMHO has been seriously damaged because of that view, this is due to the old adage that it takes two to tango, both parties have to benefit from a contract, it's all very fine to take the high road and maintain the level playing field but when no one else does the same it is stupidity
We now have all these restrictive trade agreements which are just another version of enforced tariffs, where countries agree not to produce stuff in competition rather than placing a tariff there to restrict their import.
Would it not be better to allow business to compete and have a tariff so that dumping can not occur, maybe we would then see a new manufacturing industry arise again in Australia instead of us just being a hole in the ground
