The US has nothing to do with Turkey's ambitions in Iraq & Syria.
Erdogan scuttled the US plans for Northern Iraq and Northern Syria and Syria is permanently Balkanised as a result! Then Putin threw the Kurds and about 150 dead and injured NDF fighters under Erdogan's bus for sake of a stinking gas pipeline.
Regardless of what you may think of my views Putin's criminal deal with the Devil will follow Faust's lead. It can't go any other way unless Putin starts to collaborate with Trump because all the other cards have been dealt.
