Believe it or not but Tony actually speaketh the truth!!
Let me explain!!
The ACCC has ample powers and always did.
What happens when you phone them??
It takes a while for the employee to put down the cup of coffee and put aside the paper and take the feet off the desk!!
Then they listen to you and think, can this be handled by another dept?
If not, the next question is, do we have an out clause somewhere in the legislation?
If not, the next question is, can we make it sound like it is covered by an out clause. After all this is the mere public that we are dealing with!! Etc etc etc!!
And therein lies the problem, IMO! I dare anyone to say that at least SOME of the people who were horribly "roasted" by the financial institutions did not contact the ACCC. The fact is that the ACCC did NOT do its job properly. IMO it is the ACCC that the Guvnuts should be investigating to find out how complaints were dealt with, etc etc etc - what happens now is that every time trouble brews they provide more funding to the ACCC - that simply means more people with feet on the desk, newspaper in the hand and a coffee beside them!!
I would not be surprised if you could halve the ACCC and double its efficiency and effectiveness!!
What the hell are we doing??
Lousy useless pollies!!
