Well said. I see ANZ sitting on a key support line right now. If it pushes down through that on any real volume we could see some good buying opportunities in the medium term I think. I'm keeping capital for putting into the banks if we start seeing attractive value props again. Ultimately as a customer of many financial institutions and a shareholder of a number of others I take my responsibility seriously. Unless one has been truly fiddled then primary responsibility has to lie with individuals not corporations designed to allocate capital and make money. I read the terms, consider the pros and cons and consider whether I can afford something or if it's right for me. For sure there will be many disgruntled customers, same with Telstra customers (in my experience I've found that service infinitely worse than any bank), but when everyone in the nation is a customer that's bound to be the case. Governments must take responsibility for improving financial education in schools (having babies and money isn't taught at school but two of the largest most stressful things people deal with in there lives!) Part of the problem with these organisations is that they are too big, but making them smaller will only lead to other issues when someone who expects to be able to get a loan can't... on another front, raise the costs of business too high and there will be a transfer from labour to technological capital at a faster rate (opportunity cost to labour is capital cost which is why I believe there is so much tension and lack of wage growth - employees want too much more then I'll just employ computers/robots/equipment to do the job at a better long term IRR with a workforce that's infinitely more scalable and flexible...) Anyway back to what this forum should be used for..... Anyway, I'm watching closely in the banking space for opportunity. The last 2/3 years I've been more focussed on smaller diversified financials but banks will again be seen to be great value propositions. Perhaps when they've been beaten to a pulp by the political truncheon....
