Cheating has been widespread in cricket for decades, especially in lower grades.
I gave up playing cricket in the 70’s and one of the reasons was cheating. All sorts of substances were put on the ball, fielders lied about whether a ball was a four etc, scorers would cheat, cheating was widespread in cricket in the 70’s. Umpires used to cheat regularly. I got sick of being given out when I should not have been out. Some decisions were completely ridiculous, for example, one umpire in schoolboy cricket gave me out because he thought I had ‘scored enough’.
