I think the following;
- Lehmann to be fired.
- Smith suspended for 9 months
- Anyone else involved suspended for 6 months.
- Use this opportunity to put in place a new leader that will develop a different culture.
The above sanctions provide a harsh penalty, but also give the players a chance to rectify their faults and come back better people. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you respond after taking your fair whack that counts. They should be given the opportunity to respond.
Let's not forget past players convicted of ball tampering such as Du Plessis (twice) have not received any domestic governing body ban.
There is nothing wrong with playing the game hard and piling the pressure on opposition players with some chirp, I don't think that needs to be lost completely.
