I'm not so sure (though I don't remember everything about cronje). Both captains engaged in pre-meditated cheating to change the outcome of the test match (or change it as much towards their own goal as they could)? Not a whole lot different.

Captain having a plan to deliberately alter the course of a game? Got a few of his underlings in the team to play along and work the gambit? Got caught? Not so much difference, unless you think tanking a contest is worse than - say - trying to win one by pumping yourself with steroids? No matter what, you're only a dog if you get caught. But, then, you are actually a dog, even if you got different fleas to the match fixer.

    Personally, I'd:

    1) demote Smith and Warner for a minimum period (pick a number of years) from leadership roles in the team. Anyone who's happy to cheat can't be a leader.

    2) Sack Lehmann.

    3) sack anybody else in the coaching/mentor/admin whatever that knew of it and didn't stop it.

    4) suspend Bancroft for 1 game.

    Job done.

Anything less than this and the public will mock any successful result the team gets for , and the press will be far less forgiving imo.
