Smith is devoid of the ethical standards required of a leader, shows no sense of remorse and clearly believes his actions were justifiable, deluding himself into not resigning immediately, which is the only possible honourable path forward.
If he resigns immediately and confesses the scale of his cheating over his entire captaincy, then he should at least play again for Australia. If he forces Cricket Australia to sack him as they inevitably must, then he won’t deserve his badge and the baggy green again in his career.
