He doesn't do press conferences because he will make idiotic statements and false claims. He is either too scared or his advisers stop him from doing them because they know how stupid he is. Probably both.
If he was having a direct relationship with the people then why does he not respond to their comments on social media or engage in debate. He is simply not capable of having an intelligent conversation and he cannot answer difficult questions.
