@sci9249. I can remember some time ago you talking about using Vector Vest as your system development platform. I was wondering how you found it and whether it was still you preferred software. I'd be interested in learning more about your breakout system as well.
I have no problems in expressing my complete bias re Amibroker. For the price and the functionality I really don't think you can go past it.
@Thanky assuming you can come to grips with Amibroker's basic functionality I believe its an ideal choice for systems development. There's what i think is a very good and free introductory Amibroker course available on the internet. This free course also delves into some of the more advanced functionality. The link to the site is:

There's a lot of other good Amibroker stuff, like backtested trading systems etc, available on this site. I've noticed that there are a bunch of other basic and advanced courses covering Amibroker that are popping up on the internet now as well. I've been using it ever since Metastock tried to force all its customers onto a Reuters Datalink data service. I found that Amibroker was cheaper than Metastock and provided additional functionality. I've been using Amibroker for 5 years now and I have to say I'm still learning how to use some of it more advanced functions. Another good reference is Howard B Bandy's free book "Introduction to Amibroker". The link to get the free book is:

Well enough of me going on about my infatuation with Amibroker, now back to the theme of this thread. I'd be interested in getting an understanding of the types of systems people are interested in. You know things like; the target market or markets, the type of system including the setup type and the intended trade duration etc. I've been working on two specific types of systems. I'll prepare a summary of what I've been focusing on and post it in the next day or so.
Talk to you all again soon - Wilf.
No worries guys. hopefully we can nut out some good topics here and help each other. and please note that i am in no way loyal or married to vectorvest, if i were enlightened to a better one id change over in a heartbeat. its just my stubborn refusal to learn any coding that is keeping me there at the moment. I have been very happy with it except that recently ive hit a bit of a brickwall trying to build an attractive mean reversion system. I blame that on the pro trader add on for vectorvest which i dont htink is very good. Otherwise i am very happy with it and i could spend years trying to explore all its functionality and still not be finished.
