I don't believe the trading volume gives a clear signal if someone is buying. Based on the sudden urge in demand for shares at a certain price, to me it is more of a index or fund re-balance.
Remember that CMP is removed from All Ordinaries, Effective at the Open on March 19, 2018.
I don't think a value investor would suddenly jump in the market and place strong bid at the market ask, unless there is a new information. Normally, it's just computer trading, either following momentum trading pattern etc or re-balancing for index funds.
