Well I would be 100% certain that I could make a living before jumping off any regular $$$ paying gig. As Ive always said you must be able to experience and financially survive a full cycle boom /bust /boom before having any certainty and pulling the plug on your/job work. There are many 1000's of folk in oz that would "like" to trade for a living but not many that can pull it off year after year. Once you pull the plug and trade full time for a while.... then decide you don't like it or go bust then you might become unemployable due to being out of work so long.
I would continue trading part time until the evidence that you can be sustainable yourself is undeniable. You will come to point, hopefully if your good at it, where it just does not make financial sense to devote your time to a std 9-5 job anymore. Always helpful if you have a partner working also to sustain you in case of emergency.
Becoming a professional trader in a insto environment would prob accelerate your learning somewhat but these roles are difficult to obtain and high pressure.
But hey ...some prefer to jump in deep end and swim like mad and learn how to tread water the hard way. Only 98% of those usually drown in the process.
