You know how young children who have never been outside their immediate surroundings get hold of books and start to build fantasies that later fade with a greater knowledge of the outer world?

Some people never get past the fantasy stage. An adult who is able to maintain that fantasy world would have to have some kind of protection from reality. It could be an unusual psychological makeup or great wealth - or a combination of the two.

What happens when you combine that type of personality with a country that is also somewhat protected in a bubble that was built by past lives who understood reality in a very organic way - a way that moderns cannot conceive of? There are many people here who could not or would not do what the Chinese workers do with their minds and hands.

We have become a consumer and service economy and most of us would be shocked at the level of toil that goes into what we purchase so easily from export economies. Instead of being told that the world is changing and we have to adapt, we are told that we are being treated unfairly. Even if that is true in one facet or another, there are better ways to go about righting it.

But this is ultimately about much more than unfair trade imbalances. This is about megalomania.

Unfair treatment is at the core of the president's shtick, is it not? He has a plan - to preserve his power and be loved as a ruler - and anyone in the press who speaks out against it is labeled fake news. If he is seen as failing in one regard or another, his supporters will view that failure as the result of someone's interference. Apparently he has read some history books -probably audibles - because he seems to have some insight into the mind of those who have not read much of anything. That insight is something that oligarchs throughout history have used again and again.
