Lynas's LAMP doesn't care about the bastnaesite origin. They get the concentrate and crack with sulfuric, just like the Chinese intend if they ship it home. Why do the Chinese want it? Duh.

16% NdPr from Mt. Pass. Not great, but it's plentiful, established, American, has the infrastructure, etc. Plenty to like. Still, I didn't say Lynas wanted it, just that they could handle the concentrate. I can see a time they might be interested, certainly. After all, why do the Chinese want it?

"Massive overcapacity" in China? Short term thinking. That will not be the case soon enough.

As for those illegal and/or inefficient operations (whether mining or magnet-making) that they are shutting down? Doing so simply gives them better control of the pricing; it's also a State-run environmental response the people can see and will appreciate. Chinese State needs to be seen as responsive to at least some demands. The pollution is a real problem.
