It's because men are more powerful than women in most respects. If you have the power you have to tread more carefully (as it should be). As a woman it's not so much of a problem because of the relative lack of power.
So yes, double standards, but with good reason. If you are a CEO, you have to be more careful about your decisions for your company than the junior executive because what you do has more impact.
