    Good interview.
300 utility companies, experiencing shrinking demand for electricity and lower revenues due to renewables, are examining plans to encourage EV ownership.

U.S. Utilities Look To Electric Cars As Their Savior Amid Decline In Demand

The U.S. electricity sector is eyeing the developing electric car market as a remedy for an unprecedented decline in demand for electricity. "
"I think everyone's been actually quite surprised at how fast EVs are selling," he tells Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson. "Electric carmakers are realizing that electric cars ... will essentially be cars in the next 10 to 20 years."

Fretting over the comings and goings of government subsidies and incentives is short-term thinking.  To see the big picture requires a certain degree of malleability in one's thinking.  If you're so damned certain that EVs are uneconomical and destined for the trash heap, you've probably always felt that way and always think you must and will.  That's how lots of folks felt about personal computers in the 70's and mobile phones in the 90's.   And before that, televisions.  And before that, automobiles.

Then BAM!, 10-20 years pass and everyone's got one.

The fact is there's a LOT to like about EVs.  More pleasant driving experience; no blowing stink out your ass; a fraction of the noise (even been next to a diesel bus launch?); maintenance next to nothing; quicker off the line; safer and better handling; etc.

They won't always be big and heavy and hard to put in your pocket.  Or too expensive so just one guy in town has one.

Who thought utilities would start paying folks to buy an EV?  The stodgiest segment of corporate America investing in EVs? Ain't gonna happen! Except is has; some have started doing so, because it's a good business decision, not because they are on a crusade.

    Resistance is futile.
