nurse to patient ratios differ between private and public hospitals because of the often very different
    patient population they are serving.
in a public hospital ward that is very often full of bedbound demented incontinent uncooperative screaming 90 year olds with a plethora of complex difficult chronic medical problems as well as alcoholics, drug addicts, pyschiatrically disturbed people, socially very disadvantaged people, and in general patients that provide extremely heavy workloads for nursing staff,
it is a totally different kettle of fish to a private hospital ward where there are often very healthy people having elective knee surgery, Caesarian sections, tonsillectomies and so on.
    can't compare apples with oranges.
