I am just a grumpy old man and the thought that Australia is simply a testing ground for such great innovative solutions rather than the end point is so depressing given everything we know about how Australia's economy has been increasingly outsourced. My own family is split by reason of the fact that one of my adult children despite having world recognised ability in his area has to live and work in London because there is no place for him here. It is obvious that my grandchildren will most likely also have to seek their future overseas.
On the back of an envelope after reading that there was nobody in Australia capable of providing the necessary funds to develop Cavatak I mused about the idea of a government in this country having the ac-cumin to create a development fund into which each of the 600,000 self managed superannuation funds (one of which I hold) would be required to invest a minimum of say $10,000 and then under the guidance of a body of our greatest academics and business leaders (who would be required/shamed into donating their time in the national interest to selecting Australian startups to be supported by the fund. At $10,000 a fund this would amount to a pool of at least 6 billion dollars. Startups would have to meet obvious criteria to be supported and would have to effectively enter into an escrow period of say twenty years during which all their development and growth would have to be Australia based.
What a load of rubbish I think at times.
