I bought my first shares in Challenger once I had reached a point at which I thought I understood what it was that the company did, and how it made its money.
That took me the better part of a decade, I think, so it was around 2013 that I fist became a shareholder, I believe.
(The reason I can't give an exact date is because those debut shares are sitting in NABTrade account that I ceased using some years ago, but for which I've forgotten the password! I don't mind saying that I have added to my CGF holdings via my CommSec account on a number of separate occasions since 2013.)
Truth be told, I initially bought it believing it would behave like a fixed income security it's dividend yield was close to 6% at the time. I had no idea that the company's profits would double over the next 5 years, and the share price triple.
So, sure, I got it right.
But for mostly the wrong reasons (!)
