Good news for Lynas.
"...systemic change is coming from China’s auto industry. Come back in ten years, and you’ll find a China that’s well on its way to blue skies and clean air, at least in its major urban centers. That’s because motor vehicles are the largest source of pollution in most of China’s cities, and China’s auto industry is rapidly turning all-electric. Chinese automakers churned out 680,000 all-electric cars, busses and trucks in 2017, more than the rest of the world combined. And China’s output is growing faster than the rest of the world’s too.
China Could Be The World's First All Electric Vehicle Ecosystem

The new Chinese incentives and quotas, designed to encourage new and better NEV models, are having the intended effect. Smaller automakers are being pushed out while SOEs are ramping up. Acquisitions are accelerating. A fourth large SOE is emerging, which Bloomberg predicts will complete the suite.
China's Drive to Become the Detroit of Electric Cars

Both foreign and domestic automakers will need to produce increasing numbers of PHEVs to meet quotas. Domestic automakers are leading the way, so foreign automakers will undoubtedly be purchasing carbon credits from them. Nice source of revenue for Chinese SOEs.
China’s Small Domestic Automakers Likely Out, EV Push Favors Big Names

Sadly, ROW automakers are running to China to form JVs; relinquishing technology and IP; subjugating their culture to build the Communist Party. Except Tesla. It's hard to see how this NEV paradigm bodes well for any automakers other than Chinese SOEs. ROW seems to be passing the baton.
"American and European companies involved in joint ventures with state-owned Chinese firms have been asked in recent months to give internal Communist Party cells an explicit role in decision-making, executives and business groups say." https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...49ffa6-fc57-11e7-9b5d-bbf0da31214d_story.html
Impact on Lynas is positive, because electric drive is here to stay and an increasingly disciplined Dragon is driving. China is almost certainly going to completely dominate EVs unless ROW steps up, so ROW better end their silly love affair with "sideshow" 48VMHs and get back to the Future. I'm hopeful they will, and that also bodes well for Lynas.
China is quietly creating a giant, state-owned automaker
