Also, keep in mind that about 40% of Australia's super is invested in US. The US (banks/financial system) can decide to support or deny access to parts of the markets. Portfolio flows are very-very important for Australia because the country (mostly) depends on China for the real economy and on US for the financial system.
Banks can & do influence trade finance and portfolio allocation.
