Exactly, the Australian stock market opens on Monday, when it is still Sunday in the USA. Thus, the market in the USA trails and tends to follow what happens in Australia and not the other way around. There are exceptions to this, such as when there is a major jolt in the USA stock market that affects the whole market (e.g., the recent market sell off) or perhaps when the Australian market takes a holiday.
