I have always believed that there are some forces out there that could 'draw' the chart as they like by weird trades you see pre-open (morning before open and afternoon after close) auctions. I didn't look today after close, but in the past I've seen weird trades where someone effectively buys or sell 1 share at close

e.g. buy queue 500,000 shares, sell queue 500,001 shares at the same price.

So they basically can buy / sell 1 share and move the SP up or down just one step.
