Queensland Mining Corporation (ASX:QMN) has intersected broad sporadic primary sulphide copper mineralisation from its one hole diamond drill program at the Black Fort Copper prospect in South Cloncurry, Queensland.
Highlights from the drill results include 8 metres at 0.78% copper from 313 metres and 3 metres at 0.68% copper from 337 metres.
Black Fort is located approximately 45 kilometres south-southwest of Cloncurry and 12 kilometres southwest of Greenmount and forms part of the White Range project.
The surrounding tenement is EPM17602 which is in JV with Orion Gold (ASX:ORN) and Findex Pty Ltd.
The prospect geology comprises calcareous and ferruginous siltstone, shales, phyllite, metavolcanics and jaspilite rocks of the Overhang Jaspilite unit of the Mid Proterozoic Mary Kathleen Group.
The same unit also hosts the large Rocklands copper deposit near Cloncurry which is currently being developed by Cudeco Limited (ASX:CDU).
Previous exploration by QMN has identified a 1 kilometre long structural zone with widespread alteration, broad copper mineralisation, moderate magnetic anomaly and old workings.
Drilling in 2010 intersected widespread oxide copper mineralisation with results including 17 metres at 1.51% copper.
The improved geological understanding obtained from this drill program will be used to select effective targeting methods for search of economic copper deposits in the broader region.
QMN has also expanded into graphite exploration, signing a farm-in agreement in July with Orbit Capital for a project in Cloncurry.
