It's very hard to, because your relying on others having their stops set up correctly. Some people obviously have their stop losses set on minimal volume, which is what happened on Fri imo.
I personally wouldn't have had a stop loss on NEC while the bid was in play. These sort of scare tactics always happen in takeover bids.
Buyers are back in the market today, so games should be up for now.
