Could you define 'progressive revelation'? Religion seems to be a culturally imposed straightjacket rendered powerful by a mix of superstition and inculcation.

    It's that, too.

Predominantly because it attracts men who imagine they have a calling. Anything patriarchal tends to be distorted and venal. The calling gives them power and a desire to share their singular view of the certainty of what God meant to say.

The very first religious experience was perhaps a collective abstract thought, painting an animal on a cave wall. Just as valid as any religion today as are the indigenous religions, in a relative sense. Since religion entered into and built every know society there have been countless religions, some minor and some major. Every religion has a used by date and gets replaced at some stage because it only possesses a fragment of understanding and is tailored to specific social states. Christianity replaced all previous Biblical religions as Islam replaced Christianity.

I tend to think that The Baha'i Faith might be the real deal today, if it is then it has replaced Islam and all other religions. In each case a fuller teaching is revealed more in line with the needs and spirit of the age.

In any case religious truth is not absolute, it is relative to the age and the capacity of the audience. If the Baha'i Faith is the next religion then in time it will be replaced as well by a new teaching needed for the age in which it is revealed.

Everything is in flux or evolving, even religion. When something is not evolving it is dead.
