I agree that the bible is a set of works written by numerous authors a long time ago and reflect the attitudes, knowledge... etc of their times.
The respect that they may command is related to them providing a window into the attitudes, knowledge ... etc of the times that they were written.
But to say that these works should not only be respected but revered as setting out some sort of cosmic eternal truth is, to say the least, pushing what it is to be a a rational human being too far - the works are too irrational, too violent, too contrary and too error prone to be respected in in other way than that which is mentioned above.
