It will be very difficult for Toyota to go it alone with any alternate fuel ... the EV difficulties for recharge stations are massive, and the numbers of manufacturers are huge.. imagine that same issue for just Toyota ?
(Yes, they will need fewer stations, but they will have to be everywhere if the car sales are going to thrive).
I do agree this is shaping up to be a Beta vs VHS battle...
IMHO... Toyota is safest to simply ride out the EV storm with hybrids... and then jump onto the final winner instead of trying to steer the worldwide ship towards Hydrogen ... they don't want to become another Kodak... stuck in the wrong tech.
