An historical backdrop:

DJPin itself is steeped in tradition, and actually goes back to Early Renaissance. Being run from the back hut of an Apple Cider manufacturer in Bavaria, the list used to be called the 'Punkte Ist Nein' list (Points is No List).

The comp started to attract International attention during the Tulip Mania, where it was taken to Amsterdam, then onto the world scene during UK's Industrial Revolution and Anglicised.

But one thing the comp has always tipped its hat to since, is the 'P. I. NEin' list plus the Apple heritage to give the PinApple list. You can also see where PIN comes from, but back then it was called 'Furthest from the 'Punkte Ist Nein' List', but somehow in history, the meaning during multiple translations got mixed, and now commonly, but erroneously referred and abbreviated to as 'Closest to the PIN'.
