The lack of this cooling effect in the 1980s and 90s would result in increased rate of warming. Everybody knows CO2 is a GHG because it absorbs certain spectrum of longwave radiation and re-emits 50% of the time back towards earth but what is not yet quantified is the climate sensitivity to CO2 concentration. To make the models able to be used to reliably forecast climate change we need to understand all of the variables. GCR is traditionally ignored and it is somewhat dependent on solar wind speed and density as well as solar system position relative to galactic dust clouds. CO2 sensitivity is traditionally over estimated and with each IPCC report the valuw range for the estimate reduces and as a result future warming has been traditionally over estimated. Improved understanding of variables will help improve climate models. Understanding the Svensmark effect will help improve models. More research is required to help scientists explain climate change.
