No need to come up with something new, I'm amazed at several factual issues missing from your commentary, and they aren't new.

1. the register on shorting is voluntary. It's not endorsed as accurate by the regulator. So why rely on it as accurate or complete?
I don't.

2. not all shorters make money, and sometimes they do get squeezed. Sometimes they are simply taking a stock which is overvalued to or misunderstood, to task. But that's not the only possibility is it? I don't regard shorters as doing MSB any good whatsoever.

Countering short term, negative analysis is very difficult indeed, because you need a body of knowledge to understand MSB. It takes time and effort. Being sneery or dismissive is easy. Or you get superficially impressive, but inappropriate analysis, eg. comparing MSB with WOW. Or waiting for the company to be commercially self-sustainable, before investing thereby missing out on all the SP growth. It's like waiting for Microsoft to fully emerge instead of getting in early.

3. short positions are not required to be disclosed by the writer of a negative report

4. shorters are not required to disclose their position on HC. In fact, there is no standard disclosure option for it.

5. the market operates on sentiment as much as fundamentals or technicals. In terms of sentiment, the market has been extremely intolerant of risk, real or perceived since 2008, and again another surge of risk aversion in 2011. So taking all of the above into consideration, I'd say there are plenty of opportunities for shorters to exploit fear, misunderstood risk, and impatience with MSB.

As has been acknowledged, MSB could well become a huge enterprise, of the scale of COH or CSL. Indeed, it is a world leader in the field of stem cell technology, which is unlike DRUG technology. It doesn't have the same risks.

In order to understand why, people have to be dispassionate and understand what makes the company unique among biotechs. And what has changed in terms of revenue and being able to fund the company to maximise shareholder value.

But it's so easy to simply point to the SP, and shake people's confidence who are less well researched. For some reason this is celebrated.
