Some are thick and some are thin

There are attractive ones and some gnarly ones
Some are bushy and some are bare
Both are normally thicker at the bottom
They grow bigger as they age
Often found gathered together in groups
They like standing in the sun
They are quite slow to adapt to change
They don't care how they look
Both enjoy a hug
Both are affected by wind
Some benefit from a prune
They both like lots of roots
They enjoy a drink and neither like a drought
Most stay upright, but some start to lean and eventually end up horizontal
Nobody notices when they fall in the forest.
