As with all polls, the figures are a blatant fudging of the ABS 'sample' data.
If they really want to know how we are going just ask the ATO.
If you dont pay tax, your not working / employed. Looking for a job is not working, working 1 hr a week is not employed. Granted a few will always try and avoid it but in general the figures will be more accurate than an ABS survey. The ATO also know who is fully employed, part-time, retired, etc.
If I work for Grocon or similar on a Government job such as the metro tunnel and then when the project finishes, Grocon transfer me to a new job for east west link or whatever, am I in one of Dan's newly created jobs or am I still employed by Grocon and the number of jobs hasn't changed? If im on a contract then you could argue that as I have a new contract I have a new job, but then the old contract or job would be cancelled and again the net result is no change, but Dan will tell you he created a new job for me.
