Thanks for the reply if you wish to buy for example CBA you can buy or wait for the price which you think is fair value whereas an index fund buying CBA is mandated to buy a certain percentage of CBA regardless of the price so my query is are these index funds pushing these share prices up as they have no choice but to buy.
