The Commander operation is essentially a business partner arrangement where the dealers earn commission on business they bring to Vocus, in the same way Vita Group work with Telstra, the Telco owns and bills the customers while paying a commission to the referrer. This model has been around for awhile and Vocus have had a business partner program (I think inherited from Amcom) of their own for some time. Because of the heritage of Commander, their business model is centred around on premise equipment services, which are in decline thanks to the demise of ISDN and POTs.
Commander falls under the enterprise division which was split in Jan, not Wholesale and International, as does the Vocus Business Partner program. It’s demise as a brand is hardly going to make any difference to Vocus moving forward, partners still wanting to refer business to Vocus will be looked after in Enterprise, and if they decide they want to own the customer via self billing (white label), Wholesale has the solution.
