If the govt is so bereft of talent and good policy that they have to rely on the Shorten factor, then they don’t deserve re-election. The govt has thrown everything at Shorten prior to the 2016 election and since and that strategy has clearly failed.
The voters want policy that improves their lot. They want economic security not insecurity. They want affordable housing, security of employment, fair wages, a fair go for our pensioners as well as first class education and health systems that are accessible to all. They also want a fair price for our resources and for adequate taxes and royalties to be paid by the multi-nationals. Thats where the focus needs to be instead of being lazy and trying to get in through the back door by smear campaigns against the Leader of the Opposition, a strategy which has failed anyway!
cheers

Possibly, Bill Shorten did lose the previous election, was Minister for financial services and Superannuation when a lot of this misconduct period covered by the Royal Commission happened and seems to have by some reports underfunded ASIC and corporate regulation that may have led to these matters assessed by the Royal Commission.
