I seriously think the goal umpires could be replaced by AI. You would just need a sensor for between the goals, between the point post and the goal post (and higher up for accuracy) and on the posts themselves. I guess a problem would be players brushing up against the post but perhaps there could be a sensor in the ball itself. It would be sad to see a traditional part of the game be phased out. The main thing foreigners notice and like is the goal umpire painting the forefingers for a goal.
