We have signed a FTA with Japan & Korea which delivered the death of our local auto manufacturimng but Aussie workers are snookered when it comes to importing a cheap, fuel efficient-low Klm used car from Japan:
    - Now obsolete ADRs prevent us from importing a good used popular Jap car such as a Toyota Corolla
-ridiculous ly expensive Aussie Wharf &Government regulatory fees make it economically impossible

    For example:
    - costs of putting a car FOB Japan is about $120

    -costs our side are:
    -customs agent $220
    -customs inspection fee $260
    -first quarantine inspection fee $290
    -steam leaning $132
-second quarantine inspection $290 (AQS mostly engineers a second inspection)
    -wharfage ...$380

Total charges without freight & GST.....$1572.

IF we want to compete in a globalised world, then we have to be more efficient like the japs or the Koreans and drop ridiculous bureaucratic regulations and structures that impede free trade

IN this case we should have wharfage charges similar to Japan ($120 rather than $1572)
How silly is it to have a Japan/Australia FTA which has in part decimated our auto industry, yet the Aussies sidelined by this FTA are not allowed to import a good secondhand Japanese car in lieu!!!!!!!!
