They are not measuring a distance from a fixed point in space to water surface, they are using GPS, a mathematical system of measuring radio wave phase shift from multiple satellites to give height and positioning data based on a GLOBE. So they just proved the world is a globe. Sometimes some people just shouldn't breed.
