That joke about Robert Maxwell has royal cachet – a version I heard many years ago was reputedly, told by Prince Andrew. I Googled it tonight, and found:
Prince Andrew's joke was both funnier and nastier. He told a group at a party that Maxwell had been on board the Lady Ghislaine with an "Irish tart." Andrew explained that Maxwell told the tart, "Toss me off," and she did.
Why Prince Andrew chose to give the joke an anti-Irish slant is surprising.
