Lol, pretty much the summation of a NA CEO who has commissioned technical studies of RE recovery in both coal ash & tar sands > not in his children's life time.

From what I can see the funding here is more about cleanup than any real practical sense of viable commercial supply but from what I here from another COO in the space is that is all about to change, with control of funded R&D projects shifting from the lab to required commercial partners. Effectively grubby commercial interests will have far more influence over the direction of US research in the space with the hope of some real economic outcomes.

As we know, there is no shortage of REO, US would do better to stop navel gazing, "wot's in the ground", and concentrate on redeveloping a MSC thru innovation, something the US has always done brilliantly, work out better and more efficient ways to turn RE oxides into something useful.

The man who knows told me it is still someway off but can you imagine a BAAM at the head of every production line printing net shaped "bonded" NdFeB "just in time" from proprietary powders?

The tale of Magnequench/China is extremely instructive the way forward ROW/China RE dominance, innovative MQ powders/Daido/Honda HRE Free mags to hybrid great example, Honda clise to releasing another vehicle on that platform apparently.

Check out MQ data sheets, last HRE they used was a 2009 design, deleted 3/4yrs ago, and they've incorporated Ce in various designs for at least a decade. Their level of innovation should be a template, all the time riding the Dragon, loss of patents, saga with Aunt Moly, etc, remarkable story from GM subsidiary, and ain't done yet.

Lol, NC even had a shot at taking them out way back, when Aunt Moly was just a glint in a VC's eye, you reckon that didn't stir bad blood, but the strength of Lynas supply has finally healed old wounds.
