I was definitely encouraged when they put down such a large chunk of the $50M AELB deposit and further encouraged by the structure of the payment, i.e., not "directly with the government", which had the feeling of a pay-for-play. Given the world-class kleptocracy this government has become, those previous "direct" payments to government highlighted for me the political risk that moving to Malaysia always represented.
Putting the two facts together:
"Remediation" monies no longer paid directly to government;
Condisoil approval dead in the water (at least as far as investors can ascertain).Makes one wonder.
I hate to think that Lynas might be put in a bind over storage and thus become the subject of extortionist political entities, but it's impossible to reject the possibility off-hand with the data available. Which is why it would be great to get some clarity on how much storage space they have on site. Or to understand why approval is taking so long. It is possible that there are satisfactory answers / explanations, but then why the many months of silence on the subject?
