I don't think a site has been chosen.
That $50 million figure certainly illustrates how much is at stake.
My concern is much more short term. Next year's license renewal, for one. Running out of onsite storage; I think the five year figure I gave earlier was probably overly generous. I can't be certain whether all unused land is suitable for storage and the Google imagery is undoubtedly dated; so it's very likely the situation has since deteriorated during a period of increasing production.
Anyone know how to uncover date stamp for Google satellite photos?
