This mainly came up when people thought wast would be radio active, It has been proven not to be. But even simple things like household food wast can no longer be exported or dumped at sea. This becomes a sticky problem if they cannot dispose locally. At one point the plan was to ship it back to Mt weld and use as fill for mine reclamation. don't remember all reasons but it was rejected, did not have to do with cost but laws in place in AU and internationally. Maybe someone else remembers more, it is not an easy problem to solve. If plant was near Mt Weld it becomes much easier to just put back in mine. Even this is complicated as we saw with MCP which had to do lots of processing to remove chemicals that were in the wast. The failure of the removal process was a key item that lead to its BK. Not the only one.

Lol, one of the factors that did for Aunt Moly was trucking reagents into the desert, and hauling waste water across the border into Nevada.
Lynas built a duck pond. Actually the water it puts back in the river is far cleaner than what it draws out.
