Your Bang on onoff. The DRC foreign miners are squealing like stuck pigs now over a 10% tax increase- they were making bucket loads on copper anyway - then comes a 300% increase in the cobalt price plus copper is up near 50% last years -and they get all upset cos the gov wants 10% more from their own now much more more valuable assets !!.
But I hate to see that money go to the central govt as they really are just a bunch of disgusting crooks who use it to pay their fleets of mercedes with their bebe's (overdressed beutiful African wives) in the back seats following them around town in convoys, funding private armies and mobsters who kill and rape, buying chasmpagne and flying to London in private jets and stashing it in swiss banks.
Your so right a fair share the extra money SHOULD go in increased pay directly to the workers. Then at least more of the people actually get it. But striker instigators often get beaten up and killed by mine funded mobsters there so more power to them there.
DRC is one seriously screwed up country - and no solution in sight except another war -or one great leader arising. thank god at least for the Chinese piling in there on the ground - they at least get something constructive done from nothing and build some infrastructure - even if the the west hates it cos they also rip them off ..........just like the western companies do and always have done.
The difference between good government and bad government is night and day.....roll on the day more African governments can improve ..... follow the steps of Botswana /Namibia/Ghana/Swaziland etc...(he steps down off his soap box after his totally futile commentary).
