Bigfatsirion -funny you should mention that- Ive actually got a share in 11 bronze cannons in my old company "north Caribbean research" We pulled them up from an old 1803 Napleonic french warship we excavated off monti christi in the Domincan Republic. . We never got the 5 boxes of gold coins she went down with, (USD 250 million++ each box) -but one day my US partners 15 year old kid did find one box while vaccuming deep in the mud at the bottom with the airlift tube. (we found many many old boxes of stuff in the mud- but not the gold) . He broke it open underwater and soon burst to the suface 200 metes away from our main boat shouting all excitedly "Dad, Dad -ive found a box of gold coins !!- and held a handful up to try and show us- we jumped into the dingy giving each other high fives...rich at last...and sped over to him, But as we got there he said " look look!! but why do they have little hoops on one side "...... he had found a box of bronze miltary button for the soldiers -only bronze and gold do not oxidise under the sea and so the decorated buttons sat glistening in the box in the low visibilty muddy waters as he had opened it. We think the gold boxes being heavier had sunk too far down inot the mud over the years(it was in the mouth of a big river).
Half the 11 cannons are ours (about 250,000 USD each today) via our 50/50 contractualsplit with the DR govt.(as is half the rest of the treasure we got) -We have filled two maritime archeological museaums for the DR government already with their share as per the agreement -ours in storage - but now bloody UNESCO have said all the articafts should belong to the DR govt as DR just joined UNESCO jurisdiction recently- -we said fine then govt or Unesco should repay us the USD2.5 million USD we spent doing the all the research and excavation work.-plus 10 years interest at DR rates (11% Pa) ....no agreemenbt yet- the court case is commng andIm confident we'll loose as its UNESCO -a bunch of crooks -essentially some Cuban guy there with them who we think just wants to sell them all for cash in cahoots with govt.
but it was fun work- all paid for actually by another investment i made in AN Oz penny stock that ran from 2 cents to 60 cents in the 80's. Maybe ill go back after them when CLA hits 1$ - and throw good money after bad.......but probably not -lifes too short keep doing positive new things.
